The Third Age of Aramasia
(1/1)
Solvarn:
This history primarily concerns the Third Age.
According to the monomyth that defines the end of the Second Age the Creators (or Creator depending on where you're from) were reaching the height of their power.
This version is told by the church of Sturm Aramy, the first Imperator. Since the loss of the Imperial City of Balishar at the end of the last Great War this version has fallen out of favor and mainstream telling.
While the Creators carefully and thoughtfully seeded the world with wonders and life, law and chaos, good and evil, the Dark One sat brooding in the Void beyond. He watched and waited. Balance is the nature of all things; as the Creators spent their power the Dark One accumulated his power for Destruction and held onto it like a tightfisted miser; only occasionally creating horrors untold in the Void.
As the intelligent races flourished in the Second Age the creators invested more and more power into the development of the races and their interaction. When the Creators were at their weakest the Dark One threw open the Door That Shall Not Be Opened. Terrible calamities shook the foundation of the world. Seas boiled and the land was torn asunder. Brother fell upon brother. Creatures so horrifying that even the dragons and drakes fled before them filled the darkened skies . Monstrosities tore over the world, maiming with impunity, killing with but a gaze. The Dark Choir sang their dirge of Destruction.
The Creators saw this and despaired; the life they created could not stand against this onslaught. With their world on the verge of total annihilation the Creators formed their choir one last time. In doing this they violated the Affirmation and were destroyed. The destruction of the Creators accomplished a few things. The removal of the Creators forced the Dark One back through the Door That Shall Not Be Opened. The essence of the Creators held the world together at the weak places. The Dark One maintained its existence on the other side of the door. The fabric of space and time was folded back onto itself to the point the Dark One emerged. The power of the resulting paradox powered the Crescendo, slamming shut The Door That Shall Not Be Opened. This damage to space time was permanent and manifests itself in many ways that will be listed elsewhere.
The corrupting nature of magic was cleansed by the essence of the creators. There are many schools devoted to the differing theories of magic in its current state but all agree it is much more dangerous than it was before. The price to be paid is different now, but still there.
